A Hip Hop Renaissance

Hip Hop’s Golden Age marks what many to believe to be the genre’s zenith, when crackling funk, jazz and souls samples mixed with boon-bap drum beats and mind-blowing lyricism. It was an era of rapid and remarkable innovation and an era that is about to experience and renaissance.

In 2014, the Circa Presents team produced a concert series aptly named “Circa Presents 1994” – the year many hip hop fans consider the apex of genre – merging a roster of ground-breaking MC’s from ‘golden era’ and backing them with a live music ensemble that would make the NY Philharmonic blush.

Consider it a celebration of the 20 year anniversary of 1994 or consider it a rebirth of Hip Hop. Either way, Circa Presents mission is to provide hip hop and music fans alike an outlet to enjoy the music, the culture, and the ethos of that unforgettable time, while breathing new life into the old ‘two turnables and mic’ format with live instrumentation.
